Perkins auditioned for the band after the departure of Lars Ulrich’s brother, Hans, who had been their drummer. However, he ultimately did not get the gig, as Metallica opted for Newstead instead. Perkins expressed his disappointment but understood the decision, stating that he felt he wasn’t the right fit for the band.
