Melendez was convicted in 2017 on charges of accepting bribes and conspiring to commit healthcare fraud. The appeals court ruled that the jury instructions in his trial were incorrect, which could potentially lead to a new trial. The ruling comes after a motion for a new trial was filed in 2019.
