New Interstate Bridge Construction in Oregon and Washington: Traffic Disruptions Ahead

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) have announced plans to construct a new Interstate Bridge connecting the two states. The project, which is expected to cost $4.3 billion, will involve the replacement of the existing I-5 Bridge, which was built in 1917. The new bridge will be seismically resilient and will accommodate light rail and bus rapid transit. Construction is set to begin in 2025 and is expected to last for 10 years. During this time, there will be significant traffic disruptions on I-5, with detours and closures in place. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their commutes.
