Germany has announced new measures to strengthen its borders and reduce irregular migration. The country’s interior minister, Nancy Faeser, said that border guards would be given more powers to turn away asylum seekers and that the number of border guards would be increased. The move comes as Germany has seen a rise in the number of people entering the country irregularly, particularly via the border with Poland. Faeser also announced that the country would build a new border fence in the eastern state of Brandenburg.
