Paul Olabode Akpata, the suspended president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has been criticized for accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of rigging the Edo State governorship election after buying delegates’ tickets. The NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) made this known in a statement signed by its Secretary, Olumide Akpata. The statement, titled ‘Re: NBA Suspends Paul Olabode Akpata as President’, was issued in response to Akpata’s allegations of electoral malpractice against INEC. The NEC stated that Akpata’s actions were in violation of the NBA Constitution and the Code of Conduct for public officers. The statement further revealed that Akpata had purchased delegates’ tickets for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Edo State. The NEC called on Akpata to withdraw from the race and focus on resolving the issues that led to his suspension.
