Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan responded to a report of Russian military aircraft entering the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on September 9, 2024. According to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), two Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers flew near the ADIZ, prompting an intercept by two F-22 Raptor fighter jets. Sullivan called the incident a ‘provocative and unprofessional act’ and urged the Biden administration to ‘take seriously’ the threat posed by Russian military activity in the Arctic.
