Blackburn Urges House GOP to Vote on Debt Limit Bill

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is pressing House Republicans to vote on a bill to increase the debt limit, as the government faces the possibility of a default. Blackburn, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, said that the bill should be brought to the floor for a vote as soon as possible. She argued that the bill would give the party leverage in negotiations with Democrats over spending cuts. The Treasury Department has warned that the government could run out of money as soon as October 18, and some economists have predicted that a default could lead to a recession.
