Boise State University’s volleyball team forfeited a game against San Jose State University (SJSU) amidst speculation over a transgender athlete and Idaho Governor Brad Little, Riley Gaines. The controversy arose after Gaines, a former swimmer and transgender woman, criticized SJSU for allowing Lana Willis, a transgender athlete on the volleyball team, to compete in women’s sports. Boise State’s decision to forfeit came after threats of protest from anti-transgender groups. The Mountain West Conference is currently investigating the situation.
