A Colorado jury reduced the 18-year prison sentence of former paramedic Jeremy Cooper-Howard in the case of Elijah McClain’s death. McClain, a 23-year-old Black man, died in 2019 after being restrained by police and paramedics following a report of a suspicious person. Cooper-Howard was convicted of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in March. The jury recommended a 28-year sentence, but the judge imposed an 18-year term. The new sentence is 10 years.
