Consumer confidence hits 15-month low as job market concerns grow

U.S. consumer confidence dropped to a 15-month low in September as concerns over the labor market grew, according to a report from the Conference Board. The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index fell to 108.7 from a revised 111.9 in August. The present situation index, based on consumers’ assessment of current business and labor market conditions, decreased to 144.7 from 149.6 last month. The expectations index, which measures consumers’ optimism about the future, declined to 89.8 from 93.4.
