New York City played host to El Salvador’s Independence Day celebrations on September 15, 2021. Thousands of Salvadorans and their supporters gathered in the streets of Jackson Heights, Queens, for a parade and festivities. The event included traditional music, dance, food, and speeches commemorating El Salvador’s independence from Spain in 1821.
