Marie Alvarado-Gil, a former Elk Grove High School student, filed a federal lawsuit against the Elk Grove Unified School District on Monday, alleging her First Amendment rights were violated when she was punished for wearing a T-shirt with a political message. The shirt read ‘Trump 2020’ and ‘Build the Wall.’ The lawsuit seeks damages and a court order prohibiting the district from enforcing its dress code policy in a manner that restricts students’ free speech rights.
