The Florida Senate on Thursday approved a $1 billion plan to help property insurers pay claims from Hurricane Ian and other disasters. The bill, which now goes to Gov. Ron DeSantis for his signature, would create a new state-backed reinsurance company to help insurers cover losses from future storms.
