Larry Hoover, the founder of the notorious Gangster Disciples gang, was released from prison in Illinois on Tuesday after serving nearly 50 years. Hoover, 70, was granted parole in August and transferred to a community-based residential facility. He was originally sentenced to 150 to 300 years in prison in 1973 for his role in a murder. The parole board cited Hoover’s age and his efforts to reduce gang violence as reasons for his release.
