According to early polls conducted after the first Democratic debate, California Senator Kamala Harris emerged as the winner. The poll, conducted by Monmouth University, surveyed 652 registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents. Harris received 29% of the support, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden with 24%. Other top performers included Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, each with 15%.
