The Washington Nationals have acquired pitching prospect Mackenzie Gore from the San Diego Padres in exchange for veteran infielder Trea Turner and pitcher Tim Federowicz. Gore, 22, is considered one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, having been ranked as high as No. 3 in the Padres’ system. Turner, 27, was an All-Star shortstop for the Nationals in 2019 and 2020, but struggled with injuries and inconsistency in 2021. Federowicz, 32, has spent parts of eight seasons in the majors as a backup catcher.
