Man Confessed to Lying About Testifying Against Inmate Who Was Executed

A man in Texas has confessed to lying about testifying against an inmate who was later executed. The man, identified as Michael Morton, claimed that his ex-wife, Christine Morton, had confessed to him that she had killed their son, Eric, in 1993. Based on this testimony, Michael Morton’s former wife was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, new evidence, including DNA evidence, has emerged that points to Michael Morton as the actual killer. He was released from prison in 2011 after serving 25 years. The man who was executed based on Michael Morton’s testimony, Mark Norwood, was put to death in 2011 for the murder of Eric Morton.
