Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned on Thursday that a government shutdown is likely if lawmakers don’t reach a budget deal by mid-November. McConnell’s comments came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced that she would not bring a short-term spending bill to the House floor without a provision to raise the debt ceiling. McConnell said he would bring a standalone bill to the Senate to fund the government through Dec. 20, but it’s unclear if it would pass the Democratic-controlled House.
