North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson called for the removal of a monument commemorating the end of school segregation in Durham on Saturday. Robinson, a Republican, made the statement during a speech at a ‘Back the Blue’ rally. He argued that the monument, which was erected in 2002, glorifies ‘the wrong side of American history’. The monument, known as the ‘Monument Avenue Memorial’, honors the four students who integrated Durham’s schools in 1957. The students, known as the ‘Durham Four’, faced threats and harassment for their actions.
