Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda resigned on Friday after his party lost a vote of confidence in parliament. The crisis comes amid growing tensions between Prachanda’s Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), which is the largest party in the ruling coalition. Prachanda’s resignation was expected after his party suffered a heavy defeat in the vote. The speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, has been appointed as the interim prime minister.
