A Filipino pastor was charged with human trafficking in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after allegedly recruiting and exploiting domestic workers, according to a report by The New York Times. The pastor, identified as Rey Dela Cruz, reportedly lured workers with promises of well-paid jobs and then forced them into labor without pay. Some workers were reportedly held against their will and physically abused. The case comes as the Saudi Arabian government faces international pressure to address labor abuses and modernize its kafala sponsorship system.
