Downtown Chicago residents and visitors may encounter street closures on Thursday, September 16, as the city celebrates Mexican Independence Day with the El Grito Festival. The event, which takes place in Pilsen, includes a procession starting at 1:30 p.m. from 18th Street and Blue Island Avenue, heading west on 18th Street to Ashland Avenue, and then south to Throop Street. The procession is expected to reach Throop Street by 3 p.m. The Chicago Department of Transportation advises motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
