Boston Red Sox reliever Hirokazu Sawamura was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, following a difficult stretch of performances. Sawamura, who was acquired from the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball league in March, had a 7.27 ERA in his last 12 appearances for the Red Sox. In his place, the team recalled right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock.
