According to a report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University, more than half of all renter households in the US spent over 30% of their income on rent in 2019. This is an increase from 49% in 2010. The report also states that there is a shortage of affordable housing units for low-income households. The situation is particularly dire in large cities where the cost of living is high.
