The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that there will be no cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients in 2025. This marks the first time since 1980 that there will be no increase in benefits. The lack of COLA is due to the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) not increasing enough to trigger a COLA. The SSA uses the CPI-W to calculate COLA.
