The Seattle Mariners began their American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Houston Astros with a 6-1 loss on Friday night. Mariners starter Marco Gonzales allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings, while Astros starter Framber Valdez pitched six shutout innings. Houston’s Yuli Gurriel hit a three-run homer in the third inning, and the Astros added two more runs in the fifth. The Mariners managed just five hits and struck out 12 times. Game 2 of the ALDS is scheduled for Saturday.
