Shawn Mendes made light of his past romantic connections during his acceptance speech for the Best Pop Song award at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 29. Mendes, 23, won the award for his hit single ‘Stitches’ with Camila Cabello, 25, who was also in attendance. During his speech, Mendes joked about his past relationships with Cabello and Sabrina Carpenter, 22, who he dated briefly in 2019. ‘I want to thank Camila for being here and for putting up with me all those years ago,’ Mendes said, before adding, ‘I also want to thank Sabrina for being here and for putting up with me last year.’ The audience laughed and Mendes smiled, seemingly unfazed by the jabs.
