Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel provided an update on the progress of true freshman wide receiver Mike Matthews during his weekly press conference on Monday. Matthews, a highly-touted recruit out of Georgia, has seen limited action in the Vols’ first eight games but has shown flashes of potential. Heupel praised Matthews’ work ethic and improvement, stating that he’s ‘getting closer’ to earning more playing time. The coach also mentioned that Matthews has been working extensively with the first team during practice.
