The Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 in a 10-inning game on September 17. Miguel Cabrera hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th, and Gregory Soto pitched a scoreless bottom half for the save. The Tigers moved within 3.5 games of the final AL Wild Card spot.
