UK to invest £30bn in new nuclear power stations

The UK government is planning to invest £30bn in building new nuclear power stations over the next 20 years, according to reports. The plans, which have not yet been officially confirmed, come as the country faces a looming energy crisis due to the closure of old coal-fired power stations and a decline in North Sea oil and gas production. The new nuclear stations are expected to provide around a fifth of the UK’s electricity needs.
