US consumer prices rose solidly in August, adding to inflation concerns

The US consumer price index, a key measure of inflation, rose 0.1% last month, according to data released Tuesday by the Labor Department. The increase was driven by higher prices for gasoline, shelter, and food. The core consumer price index, which excludes food and energy, rose 0.6% in August, the largest increase since February 1982.
