Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving car unit, plans to offer rides in self-driving Uber vehicles in Atlanta as early as next year. The companies announced a partnership in May 2016, but this will be the first time Waymo’s technology is used for commercial rides in the U.S. The vehicles will be equipped with Waymo’s hardware and software, and Uber drivers will be in the front seat to take control if necessary.
