Why the First Week of October May Be the Most Volatile for Stocks

According to Yahoo Finance’s Brian Sozzi, the first week of October has historically been the most volatile for stocks. He cites data from the last 20 years showing that the S&P 500 has had an average daily move of 0.4% during this period. Sozzi also mentions that the CBOE Volatility Index, or VIX, which measures market volatility, tends to spike during the first week of October. He advises investors to be prepared for potential market swings.
