The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has ordered Xcel Energy to refund $32.5 million to its customers for costs related to the failure of the Sherco 3 coal unit in 2019. The PUC found that Xcel Energy did not adequately maintain the unit and failed to provide proper notice before passing on the costs to customers. The refund will be issued in the form of a bill credit.
