New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban announced his resignation on Tuesday, effective immediately. Mr. Caban, 61, has served as commissioner since December 2019, overseeing the department during the coronavirus pandemic and protests over police brutality. He did not give a reason for his departure. Mayor Bill de Blasio thanked Mr. Caban for his service and said he would begin the search for a successor.
